Swine Flu

Swine flu was the last major pandemic that we have seen spread across the world, spreading rapidly. Officially known as H1N1/09, this influenza A virus led to the 2009 pandemic that was commonly referred to as the swine flu. A second case was detected with no contact between the two just two days later, and days after that, another infection was found in Texas.

This flu killed 12,000 people throughout the United States alone and spread to infect roughly 24% of the world. Worldwide, over the course of the year, it managed to claim 284,000 lives, listed with a death rate of .02%, twice that of the typical seasonal flu that goes around.
